Student Wins Grant for School Club

South Hills Middle student Amber Barron was selected to receive a $3,000 Smart Women Grant from
Zions Bank.  She received the grant in the category of continuing education and teacher support for the school’s MESA club, which she helped establish.  Her project was selected from among 113 applications submitted this year.

MESA, (Math, Engineering, Science Achievement) is a national program that has promoted math and science engagement among young women and minorities for more than 30 years. The after-school, no-grade club meets bi-monthly and participates in challenging activities that continually heighten interest in mathematics, engineering, and the sciences in targeted populations.
